Dropping the latest Sketch-a-Wish voted on by my lovely Patreon members for January (yes, I'm drastically behind, but feverishly catching up!)

Featuring Jude and Cardan from The Queen of Nothing by @blackholly ! Another scene requested where I took a slight detour to showcase what we didn't see on page (when Jude was unconscious) but was hinted at in the aftermath (Cardan's bloody jacket).

Does anyone else's cat shed fur when they're startled or agitated? Mine leaves behind clumps, which for a Devon Rex is dire. I channeled that energy with Cardan's agitated whipping tail and shedding leaves. I'm assuming he was still quipping with the Living Council as he stormed out with Jude in his arms.

Pomegranate arils have been my go-to fruit to add to my morning oats for over a year now, so it was a fun time to sprinkle them all over this. 🥣

Dropping the final artwork I created for the Illumicrate edition of Modern Faerie Tales! This was an autumnal dreeeeaaam! 🍂🍁

Same setting as the first book (in the court), but focused on the dancing instead of the food. I'm glad I finally got to wrap up the trilogy reading for this set. Now having the full context, I'm eager to revisit all of the Elfhame cameos. 🙌

Dropping number two of the hardcase artworks I created for the @illumicrate editions of the Modern Faerie Tales series by @blackholly!

I had read Tithe a while back trying to recover from TCP hangover, but never was able to immediately pick up Valiant / Ironside. I remember being stuck about the abrupt change in POV away from Kaye and Roiben that I couldn't decide whether to start Valiant or go straight to Ironside.

Fast forward to this project, I was finally able to dive in, and was really thrilled with this side quest (which is definitely a linear segue to Ironside, as we're introduced to some important characters here)

I always had this sense that Modern Faerie Tales had such a gritty texture in its story compared to the velvety writing of FOTA, and Valiant is the most sandpaper of the three. I think Val scurrying through the backdrop of NYC accentuates this.

Side note, I scoured Google Street View to find a vantage point that faced Central Park to reference for this background. I stared at this street (24 W 100th St) for so long while making this illustration, it's almost nostalgic. I even added it to my list of sight seeing stops I had planned to do while in NY for BookCon last month, but didn't have time. I will someday visit this randomly chosen reference illustration, for no other reason just to experience the self-induced surrealism.

Heyyy everyone!

I'm still in recovery mode after BookCon! Lots of clean up and catching up these past two weeks, so new art is still in the works, not wholly unrelated to this!

Dropping these artworks that I started working on a few years ago for the Illumicrate editions of Modern Faerie Tales by @blackholly! We had some ideas about making these work together with the FOTA dust jacket designs, but when the artwork moved to the case, the direction changed. (I posted these origit concepts for my patreon members, they're quite fun!)

Honestly had so much fun designing the banquet foods here, and the decoratively tied root 'chandeliers' is my favorite detail.

I was super happy to find out that I was art buddies with @ekbelsher on this edition, who was tapped for the endpapers, as MFT is her stopping ground as much as FOTA is mine - prime choice! And the eerie dust jackets by @julie.reinhart_ @chattynora and @_anniearnold were just delectable. 😤🤌

"That Was The Moment"

Last year I mentioned how Scarlet x Wolf reunion from The Lunar Chronicles (by @marissameyerauthor) was one of my favorite literary reunions I've read (alongside AFTG). I've had this sketch in the works since then, only I offered two different versions to my Patreon members to vote on. But I loved both poses so much that I ended up finishing both. Oops!

This is now the third illustration in an accumulating 🌶️quartet - Winter and Jacin has to be next of course! And my favorite scene of Winter and Jacin is probably not one that you'd first expect?

This print is available in my shops, and it's unique because the Standard Mini Print edition has both poses front and back! Link in Bio!

The time has come! I'm sure there will be a lot of businesses following suit now that we're approaching a year from when IMG took over SJM licensing. But I want thank Writer's House for the generous grace period they allowed us to have while we waited for our applications to be considered.

Unfortunately, I have not heard back from IMG and am now in a sell off period of all of my Sarah J. Maas licensed merch from now until May 15, 2026. After that time, all merchandise will be removed from both of my shops (link in bio)

The last items I was allowed to license are never-before-announced Page Overlays for three of my artworks. They are available for Pre-order and will be shipping out late April after I return from BookCon 2026.

It may seem bitter for many people with how this licensing transition was handled, but it's hard for us to understand looking from the outside in how things are progressing behind the scenes. I'm walking away feeling grateful, and here is why:

Before 2020, licensed merch was shunned for being too 'corporate'. People would purposely purchase unofficial merch to support small shops.

I remember only seeing a few handful of creators having a 'license' to sell merch. That was unheard of. So I sent an email right at the time SJM opened licensing to the masses and BOOM. Suddenly I'm a licensed seller for a juggernaut fandom. They made a really easy pathway so everyone from all corners of the market could become a licensed seller and the bookish economy exploded (remember the SJM dust jacket tsunami?)

SJM as a huge author streamlining small business licensing carved a path, making it comfortable for other authors and agencies to open up licensing to small businesses/creators. The culture around licensed merch drastically shifted among the consumer base from being shunned to being sought out. So while we're parting ways for now, I can't help but be grateful to SJM and her team at Writer's House for becoming the rising tide for small business licensing in the bookish community. We're still riding that wave years later.
